Children's bedrooms you have to see to believe

Whether you're sitting with your best friend on the floor of your room playing Barbies or a tween lying in bed reading Harry Potter before bed time, one thing's for sure: a bedroom is meant to be an oasis.

It's a space where imagination blooms, and young boys and girls dream.

Here's a look at some of the most beautiful children's bedrooms at the Shore:

Storybook Room

Built for a princess, the Storybook Room consists of different shades of pink, a bunk bed with plenty of storage space, and a beautiful 12-foot cathedral ceiling for plenty of space.

The room, which was designed by Monmouth Beach's Sheila Rich, is perfect for slumber parties. The Marlboro room comes with a full size bed on the bottom, and a twin bed up top.

"It's a storybook room, like a fairy tale," said Rich, who has been an interior designer for 30 years. "The bed inspired the entire room. It's like a little cottage that she lives in."

Rich designed the room for a 3-year old girl in mind. While she might outgrow the bed, Rich designed the remaining furniture with longevity in mind. The remaining furniture balances out the room, Rich said — the white furniture color and Victorian feel is something a young girl can use when she enters her teens.

"People have different philosophies (when it comes to children's bedrooms,)" Rich said. "There's some who are about practicality and budget. Or you can just make it fabulous and worry about it in 10 years when they say, 'What were you thinking?' "

Captain's Room

When it comes to boys, decorating their room is simpler, Rich said.

"It's easier to (create) something that they can grow up with for a long time," Rich said. "The (furniture and wall color) is something they can always have. Then, you can just add pillows that have a whimsical baseball theme."

Sweetheart Room

This child's bedroom has a more elegant feel with a lime green and rose theme throughout.

The bed features a heart shaped upholstered headboard and Victorian rose-patterned wool carpet that combines old-world charm with a modern look.

Be sure to accessorize your space.

This home, 19 Conover Lane in Rumson, features a play area perfect for children.

Mario Venancio, the agent for this home, said many homeowners want to create a warm feeling in their children's rooms.

"(Like a) sitting area (or) desk — to create a happy, cheerful environment and a color scheme kids enjoy," Venancio said. "Also, built-in benches, an area for books."

He added that all of the bedrooms inside this home feature plenty of space and large closets so that there's no bulky dressers in the room — leaving more room for a play area.

Pretty in Pink

This room is a girly girl's dream.

The room, designed by Rich, features pink colored walls and a matching carpet.

Rich said she started working on this little girl's room when the occupant was 2 years old. She recently updated the room when the girl became a tween.

"To update it and make it fresher, I added black and white polka dots (throughout)," Rich said.
